A Bayes Factor Approach to Discriminate between Linked or Pleiotropic Qtl
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Most of the experiments to map QTLs involve recording of several traits, often genetically correlated between them. Several authors have tried to solve the problem of discriminating between linked and pleiotropic QTLs (Cheverud et al., 1997 ; Almasy et al., 1997 ; Lebreton et al., 1998 ; Knott and Haley, 2000). From a bayesian point of view, the comparison between alternative models is solved by the calculation of Bayes Factors (Kass and Raftery, 1995). The Bayes Factor is the ratio between the marginal probabilities of data under both models after integrating out all the parameters. The objective of this paper is to propose a Bayes Factor approach for testing between linked and pleiotropic QTL. First, we present the general Bayes Factor, and, secondly, two particular examples from an experimental F2 cross between outbred lines of pigs are presented.

Derivation of a Bayes factor to distinguish between linked or pleiotropic quantitative trait loci.
A simple procedure to calculate the Bayes factor between linked and pleiotropic QTL models is presented. The Bayes factor is calculated from the marginal prior and posterior densities of the locations of the QTL under a linkage and a pleiotropy model. The procedure is computed with a Gibbs sampler, and it can be easily applied to any model including the location of the QTL as a variable. The pr...
متن کاملComparison of two QTL mapping approaches based on Bayesian inference using high-dense SNPs markers
To compare different QTL mapping methods, a population with genotypic and phenotypic data was simulated. In Bayesian approach, all information of markers can be used along with combination of distributions of SNP markers. It is assumed that most of the markers (95%) have minor effects and a few numbers of markers (5%) exert major effects. The simulated population included a basic population of ...
متن کاملMapping and Expression Analysis of a Fusarium Head Blight Resistance Gene Candidate Pleiotropic Drug Resistance 5 (PDR5) in Wheat
Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by Fusarium graminearum is a serious disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), through which grain quality losses are induced by fungal trichotecene mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol (DON). A class of plasma membrane localized ABC transporter proteins related to the yeast PDR5 (pleiotropic drug resistance5) efflux pump seems to be responsible for partial resista...
متن کاملQuantitative trait loci affecting calving traits in Danish Holstein cattle.
The objectives of this study were 1) to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting direct and maternal calving traits at first calving in the Danish Holstein population, 2) to distinguish between pleiotropic and linked QTL for chromosome regions affecting more than one trait, and 3) to detect QTL affecting stillbirth and calving difficulties but not calf size that could be used in selection...
متن کاملExperimental designs for reliable detection of linkage disequilibrium in unstructured random population association studies.
A method is given for design of experiments to detect associations (linkage disequilibrium) in a random population between a marker and a quantitative trait locus (QTL), or gene, with a given strength of evidence, as defined by the Bayes factor. Using a version of the Bayes factor that can be linked to the value of an F-statistic with an existing deterministic power calculation makes it possibl...
